I came up with the name Monto Aeru when I was about 15 years old. I told myself one day I would become a clothing designer and make my own brand, and Monto Aeru would be the name. At the time, I just thought the name would sound cool in a song (I'm a songwriter, lol).

Fast forward to 2025, I reached my highest weight of 310, due to stress and depression that was very hard to pull myself out of, but by the grace of my Lord and Savior, I got out of it. However, it did leave me on an island with a mirror, forcing me to see the damage I'd done to my outer appearance. Clothes stopped fitting, I lost my confidence, and I didn't have anything in my closet that could help me feel human again. It wasn't until I put on a sleeveless shirt that made me so frustrated with my body that I knew I needed to make a change.

From that day forward, I began my weight-loss journey and decided that I wanted to make clothes that make me feel good along my journey. Let's be real — it's not easy shopping while being heavyset. Nothing ever fits the way it does on the models, it doesn't last long, or it's not sized properly. It's frustrating (and pricey).

I knew that I wanted to eliminate that guesswork with our brand — and I do mean OUR, because this isn't just for me, but for all of us! We all want to look good, whether we're on our weight-loss journey or just wanting to feel comfortable in our skin when we're out with friends. Plus-size clothing can be so dull and not really fashionable, and the bigger the sizes, the quicker brands stop catering to us. We deserve to feel good about ourselves, and the clothing we choose to wear helps narrate our stories about how we feel on the inside.

To be clear, Monto Aeru is not a fitness brand, and it's not strictly meant for plus-size bodies. It is meant for all bodies. It's about inclusion, not exclusion. M.A. is what you create space for in your world. We are not just another brand — we're a world that you can fit in. Welcome home.
